J. Crew Excursion Quilted Vest

excursion quilted vest, xs in candied cherry
style #49194   full price: $98.00

worn with j. crew vintage cotton v-neck tee, xxs in black

I have been wanting to style a cozy winter outfit with this puffer vest ever since seeing it in the J. Crew catalog. Unfortunately, the smallest size in-store was an xs. I decided to be bold and try it in orange (apparently it is candied cherry), but did not end up liking the color on me. I am sure the black tee did not help!

My local J. Crew fitting room can give a girl some self-esteem issues! So many shadows all over the face...egads! (our hackneyed expression in third period today)

I love the quilts!

The chest looks too large on me (not in a good way!) when zipped.

I would love to try this "getaway green" color in an xxs. Please make it to sale!

  1. So that candied "cherry" is more orange? That's good to know. I have been fuming over a magical overnight price switcheroo they did for a puffer coat for DD that I had planned on buying today. They kept saying that it was never on sale. Come on, I have been stalking the website and had it in my cart. Needless today, they did not make a sale with me today.

  3. @Anonymous Definitely orange! I was shocked when I saw the color description! But it is a lovely color, but I did not like it on me.

@LRA There were a lot of elm green vests at the Town Square mall in Vegas, but no xxs. :( I was really hoping to see the navy, that is the one I originally fell in love with in the catalog!

  6. Thanks for the review! I was just thinking about this the other day (even though I am not normally a quilted vest type of girl). I agree that it's very strange that they call orange cherry.

  9. You are the vest queen! I agree that the color on the model would probably be better, plus it would go with so much more :)

  10. @Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews) I would love to see a style post for your vest!!

@TaraMixandMatch Lol! I actually wore a vest today for work...and yesterday! I try to limit my vests to only two per week! I probably should have spaced out the days more, but at least they were different colors! :p

  11. J.crew models seem to be able to pull anything off - puffy vest with a wool jacket and look so cute? I'd like to see it on a real person please. :)
The xs is too big on you, I agree. I wonder how an xxs would fit.

  14. ohhh that is pretty it's like hermes orange.. but i have to agree with you.. i don't think i would be able to work that color into my wardrobe enough to justify the purchase.. a black one would def be better.. but i adore the quilting on it!

omgosh you crack me up michelle.. it's nice to know other people are saying nommy outloud.. and not just me :p bahahaha!

  21. It looks like the vests run big. I ordered the elm green in an XXS (it was the only size they had left, but it was on sale and i HAD to have it)...but anyway im hoping it fits because i usually wear a small(2/4) in outerwear. How would you say it fits in comparison to what size you normally wear??
